I noticed that the Bartlesville fly-in is posted on the Starduster Frappr map. Do we want to do the same for Wendover? Question

Great idea. Remember this map is for us and any duster driver, builder or just a duster lover can post items to the map. I have really enjoyed and gotten ideas from the pictures posted - I hope we can get more!

Cam,

My server at work screens the map site as "social networking", imagine that. Is there anyway to change the properties of that site to educational mabey?

Thanks,

John

Jim Clark set up the pin map for the Stardusters, so maybe he can change it. But I doubt it. It depends on how your companies software is determining that it is "social networking". If they are using a database of websites and types, then there is nothing that we can do to change it. But if your companies software looks at the tags in the webpage to determine the type of site, then MAYBE it can be changed. Maybe Jim can look at it.

My company blocks things like MySpace as social networking, but does not block the Starduster pin map.

Way over my head. I will send a message to Frappr site administrator and see if we can get an answer.

Hi John,

I did not see anything in the FRAPPR Meta Tag that indicated social networking. Cam is correct about the block being placed by your company, whether that decision is made by your Network Administrator or by a subscription list of some kind. Either way, you will need to contact your Network Administrator and ask him (or her... don't want to sound prejudiced) to create a port for you to access the FRAPPR site. You'll probably have to plead your case, but to be honest, I would also consider FRAPPR to be a "social networking" site more than an "educational" site. Still, it is not nearly as "socially networking" as MySpace, so they may give in and give you access (after all, the site is not used for any kind of messaging).

There can also be a couple of work arounds, but you have to know a little about computers. The first is to use VPN to tunnel outside of the corporate firewall to a "friendly" network, and the second is to use Microsoft's Remote Desktop Web Connection to access your computer at home and access FRAPPR through your home computer. The downside (besides complexity Shocked ) is that you'll probably need your Network Administrator's permission to install either program if they are not already on your work computer.

Uh... on second thought, just ignore the second paragraph and try the advice in the first paragraph. Confused

It looks like the web page for our pin map is gone.

Just as well. I never thought the page worked very well and did not have a very full sampling of Duster owners. I browsed around and found that the old maps are supposed to go away on January 1st and it will become a paid membership site. Not sure why ours is already gone though.

I think I found the website for PLATIAL/FRAPPER, but I had to create a new map for Stardusters. Still haven't quite got the hang of it yet. Here's a link to the new map but I can't tell you where it will zoom in on the initial link.

http://platial.com/map/Starduster/815549

The map's name is "Starduster". You may have to register before you can place a pin. I wasn't too impressed with FRAPPR. We'll have to wait and see if this new site is any better.

I haven't played with it enough to give you an answer, but I'll let you know if I figure it out.

Well, that was short-lived! Frappr was replaced by Platial, and as of yesterday (Feb 27th), Platial says that they are shutting down operations and may be gone as soon as Mar 2nd.

How about we get this thread deleted. It no longer has any value.

I agree. At the very least, we should remove the STICKY status.
